In Building Wireless Fire Code Adoption for OR & WA Begins July 1, 2010
July 14th, 2010 Posted in Portable Two Way Radios
In 2009, the International Code Council and the National Fire Protection Association added in building communication requirements to their book of fire codes. Radio frequency (both radio and cellular) signals are greatly reduced when passed through dense building materials such as concrete and metal. Buildings with inadequate wireless coverage need to be outfitted with Bi-Directional Amplification systems (BDA’s). The cost of an amplification system can vary greatly based on the equipment used, system design, and the qualifications of the installation/testing personnel. It is important that all parties involved understand the ramifications of an improperly designed system.
